During the nine o’clock today, a man entered 228 S Clinton St, a downtown Iowa City Starbucks, and adamantly requested of the manager, the home address of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz. In return for the address, the man offered to pay employee, Peter Szabo of Arlington Heights, IL, $300 in cash. He showed Szabo the cash.
According to Szabo and other Starbucks employees, this wasn’t the first time the man had been seen at the Starbucks.
On five different occasions between November 9 and November 11, the man, who is described by Szabo as an elderly man, has entered the coffee shop.
Each time, the man requested Ferentz’s presence, as well as his home address, only to abruptly exit upon receiving an unsatisfactory answer.
On November 11, the man hastily entered the store and boisterously inquired, “Where is that (racial epithet) lover, Kirk Ferentz?” He left shortly after.
Today, when the man entered the store for a sixth time in the last four days, Szabo had to think quickly.
“I told him if he wrote down his name, I’d get back to him,” said Szabo.
The man wrote the name, Florian Peters on the piece of paper.
After he left the shop, Szabo immediately contacted the Iowa City police department.
They are currently investigating the situation.
